Zac Efron Says No Way To Footloose Posted by KiKi & Sassy 9 April, 2009 - 9:23 AM

Time to check in on our favourite Hollywood man(or is that boy?), Zac Efron. Just as we were all excited about Zef starring in the Kevin Bacon role in a remake of Footloose, we find out he's ... passed. As in: passed on the movie. Instead of cheering with glee, zipping up his high-waisted man-jeans and practising his dance moves, he said NO.

Obviously we are heartbroken.  Because the only thing better than the movie Footloose, would be another Footloose, preferably starring Zac Efron.

But Zef told Entertainment Weekly:

"I'm sure Footloose would have been a huge challenge ... but the actors that I love and the actors that work really hard in this industry are always shaking things up, trying new genres, acquiring new skill sets. That's what's always going to appeal to me: the unknown."

What he means by the unknown is a movie called The Death & Life of Charlie St. Cloud, where he'll play cemetery caretaker who has conversations with his dead younger brother and a romance with another ghost.

To translate for you: Zef has decided it's time to be a Serious Actor.  Like that time when he said he'd like to be in movies like No Country for Old Men.

Can't you just see it?  And the Oscar nominees are: Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Daniel Day Lewis, Philip Seymour Hoffman and ... Zac Efron.  No one springs to mind when you say Priest, detective, serial killer, famous author, character actor like Zac Efron, right?

Oh Zeffie honey, we love you more than life itself, but for the love of all that is good, holy (and glittery) - PLEASE stick to what you know. And that is jazz hands, snappy outfits and being the most beautiful boy in the entire world.

Oh Zac, You are a young man - you have plenty of time when your old to do the 'serious films'. Besides. it's not like Footloose is a comedy - it's a classic dance film! I really hope they find another great lead for the remake, or else they may as well not bother
