ARIA Awards Wrap Up Posted by Music 26 November, 2009 - 11:37 PM
When Jessica Mauboy won the first ARIA of the night everyone was thinking "here we go", but she was upstaged by the eccentric pop duo Empire Of The Sun who ended up winning more ARIAs than anyone else.
International guest Robbie Williams was as lovable as ever and put in a live performance that had fans screaming for more, while the duet between Kate Miller Heidke and ex-Idol Lisa Mitchell was just so cute!
Jessica Mauboy set the stage alight, showing us why her single, "Running Back" has been racing off the shelves and Sarah Blasko's costume gave Bjork a run for her money in the "looking like a pixie" stakes.
Sarah surprised everyone when she trumped Jessica for Best Female Artist, but it was the Empire Of The Sun (their bizarre acceptance speeches left us wondering if they were eccentric, pretentious, or both) got the glory, winning four ARIAs including Album Of The Year.
Highlight
Robbie Williams and Temper Trap stole the show with some stellar performances, while it was great to see Aussie legends AC/DC win their first ever ARIA!
Lowlight
Hosts Gyton Grantley and Kate Ritche left everyone feeling a little flat. Let's put it down to nerves.

What do you think – did Jessica Mabouy deserve to win a couple more ARIAs?

Horrible! After watching the AMA's a couple of days ago, you can really see how boring our ARIAs are!
Once again, the Idols were snubbed - Jessica Mauboy only received one award (for "highest selling single") which couldn't be rigged, yet lost the other 6. A little weird considering she completely dominated sales and airplay more than any other Australian artist these past 12 months.
Lisa Mitchell also did not pick up a single award in her 5 nominations. It''s funny because these awards end up going to a bunch of random "nobodies" who end up being forgotten within a couple of years. Once again, ARIA proved how it's award show lacks all credibility.

Jess was ripped off - she's worked so hard to get to where she is and her albums are massive.
Why she didn't win I'll never know.
We love you Jess:)

Actually no, my people. This is the music industry and I think it was right to have 'snubbed' Idol contestants. They don't deserve the prestige and honour associated with it, because it isn't even their music.
All your 'nobodies' have truly poured out their heart and soul, Luke Steele has been in the industry for 15 years, Kate Miller Heidke or Sarah Blasko, who are amazing vocally.
Jess has a fantastic voice, but so does everyone else, she doesn't write her music and her focal point since winning is to continue shedding her clothes, how disrespectful to herself. She' s changed from country to pop to hip hop, she can do all three, and yet she goes for the most popular. She is Australia's Beyonce and I have seen better ballad days on Australian Idol.
I don't see her develop musically, any more than she had on Idol. I actually listened to her sing then.
The only reason why the Arias is credible is because they did not let a singer win the ultimate prize of a creative artist in the industry. Thank god. Jess, we want you to blossom as an artist and not just a singer with rad tunes or a model for Veet hair removal. So I hope you stop shedding your clothes for the cameras and smile. We will love you as you were, belt those Christina Aguilera tones girl!

The reason why ARIA snubbed Jessica Mauboy and Lisa Mitchell? They are former Australian Idol contestants and a lot of the people that vote for the winners of the ARIA Awards tend not to look favourably on people who have come from a background like Idol because according to them "People on Idol get recording deals too easily and don't work hard enough to get them", which stinks because Jessica Mauboy and Lisa Mitchell both deserved ARIAs for the years they have had.
