Chicks Vs Blokes On R-Patz New Movie! Posted by Matt Smith & Emma Moran 12 March, 2010 - 12:40 PM

Remember Me

Starring Robert Pattinson, Emilie De Ravin, Peirce Bronsan and Chris Cooper.

The Chick's Review ...

The latest edition in the R-Patz franchise is a good one, so both the Twi-hards and rest of the universe will not be disappointed.

In this role, Patterson plays 21-year-old Tyler Hawkins who has lost his way in life and has a strained relationship with his father and the rest of the family, who are all struggling to come to terms with a tragedy. This is a good contrast to the famous Edward Cullen character brought to life (or, death) by Robert Pattinson in the Twilight series.

Tyler meets Ally Craig (Emilie de Ravin) who has an equally traumatic past and as the film progresses, so too does their relationship. They slowly work towards healing each other's wounds, whilst dealing with the ramifications their previous lives have on their present relationship.

'Remember Me' is a dark and meaningful film with an unexpected twist that makes the movie title so apt.

Four Stars.

The Bloke's Review ...

Tyler and Ally are both living their lives with the shadow of tragedy constantly following them. Tyler likes to keep it somber by drinking, smoking and playin’ guitar. Ally lives each day as if it was her last.

A twist of fate brings them together and threatens to turn their unhappy lives into something to celebrate.

‘Remember Me’ is a romantic drama with a few solid underlying themes for the audience to think about. At times it struggles to fully embrace the directions that it is heading, but nevertheless is saved by solid performances and strong chemistry from the main leads.

Robert Pattinson could have easily fallen into the trap of using his super popular, brooding Edward Cullen act to steal the show but instead fully immerses himself in the character of Tyler.

Melbourne born Emilie de Raven is perfectly cast as Ally and her chemistry with the aforementioned Mr Pattinson will be enough to make a good percentage of the audience extremely jealous.

Four Stars.

The Green Zone

Starring Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear and Amy Ryan.

The year is 2003 and the setting is war-torn Baghdad. Chief warrant officer Roy Miller and his team are on a mission to find those elusive ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’.

As history has since told us those weapons were mighty difficult (read: nowhere) to be found. But this doesn’t stop ‘Chief’ from setting out on a one man mission to scour every nook and cranny until he is completely satisfied there is no WMDs..

‘The Green Zone’ sees Matt Damon team up with his ‘Bourne Ultimatum’ and ‘Bourne Supremacy’ director Paul Greengrass and once again it is a match made in cinema heaven.

Greengrass, who is also responsible for the politics-heavy films ‘Bloody Sunday’ and ‘United 93’ is the perfect man to drive this story from our very recent history. Damon proves once again that when you are looking for a man that is convincing as an action hero, but also possesses a pretty decent brain, he is near impossible to beat.

Together they have made a film which is a hell of a lot of fun to watch, and pretty good to stop and think about once you have left the cinema

Five Stars.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

Those with a serious craving for some Twilight-like action are possibly a little spoilt this week. First we have Robert Pattinson in ‘Remember Me’ and now we have the story of warring vampires in ‘Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’.

It is at this point though that everyone should take a deep breath and think before they jump into the cinema queue. ‘Remember Me’ may very well satisfy some cravings. But ‘Cirque du Freak’ may just leave you even hungrier for the return of Edward, Bella and Co.

It is at this point though that everyone should take a deep breath and think before they jump into the cinema queue. ‘Remember Me’ may very well satisfy some cravings. But ‘Cirque du Freak’ may just leave you even hungrier for the return of Edward, Bella and Co.

But that is not going to stop those that have a new found fetish for all things vampire lining up to feed their blood lust, and it has to be said the producers of ‘Cirque du Freak’ well and truly know this.

‘Cirque du Freak’ works on a premise that the more you throw out at the audience; vampires, bearded ladies, snake boys, huge spiders, girls with tails and a dwarf with a forehead that puts ‘the Red Queen’ to shame, the more they will love it.

Unfortunately, the film plays out like a clunky mess. The more you try to work out what is going on, the less you care. ‘Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’ suffers from expectations placed on it from other vampire films but it still doesn’t stand up as a decent film in its own right.

Good for DVD, but not much more.

Two Stars.
