Although Kate Bracks' interpretation of Rene Redzepi's 'snowman' from famed Danish restaurant Noma earned her the MasterChef 2011 title, viewers were left wondering about a couple of other things: when was the grand final actually filmed and why did they stick The Renovators in between?

In an interview with Kyle and Jackie O, not only did Kate reveal that she was going to establish a B & B with her $100,000 prizemoney, parts of the grand final were pre-recorded (according to our research Redzepi's last tweet from Australia was on July 26).

Was Channel Ten's decision to split the MasterChef grand final in two parts a masterstroke? Let's look at the numbers.

2.334 million watched MasterChef Australia: Finale Night, which aired prior to The Renovators - that got 1.269 million viewers.

2.568 million watched MasterChef Australia: Winner Announced.

Not bad, right? But if you compare that to 2010's figures…

In Channel Ten's defence, they did advertise the show's scheduling well in advance in all TV guides - but judging by the reaction across social media, that didn't matter.
