Victoria Tipped To Become BIGGEST State
Why are people flocking south?
More and more people are calling Victoria home, with its population passing the six million mark
It's thanks to overseas migration, as well as a heap of people moving to Victoria from northern states like Queensland for work and for snow.
The new stats mean Melbourne is well on its way to overtaking Sydney to become Australia's biggest city, while the state's population is tipped to swell to seven million people by 2024.
Between March 2015 to 2016, Victoria grew by nearly 2 per cent.
More than 14,000 people decided to ditch their old state and flock to Victoria over the past 12 months, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
On Thursday, September 22 Australia's population stood at 24,195,823.
