Poor Peter Hitchener! He was spending his evening in the usual way, bringing news into thousands of Melbourne homes; when he got shown the bird!

He was presenting the Channel Nine news last night with the standard backdrop - a live camera shot of the Melbourne skyline.

But the issue with live cameras is that things can go wrong ... like a giant seagull strolling across the camera lens!

Peter seemed unaware of the seagull photobombing at first and carried on reading the news story regardless.

After cutting to a video report, the rest of the news team showed that they had definitely spotted the seagull invasion by taking the mickey out of the hilarious moment!

Peter could barely contain himself as he re-lived about the event. But ever the professional, he still managed to weave a bird-related pun into a seamless hand over to the weather.

Bravo Peter!

  OMG that was the funniest thing I have seen. There is nothing more funnier than a serious story being interupted by a giant bird. I have never spat a piece of broccoli before...
